Dayton
resident Winifred Fiedler came to quilting
relatively late in life—she started about 20 years
ago after raising five children. Her work has been exhibited
throughout southwestern Ohio, at the Glen Helen Preserve,
the Ohio State Fair, Springfield Art Museum, Cox Arboretum,
Dayton Convention Center, the Dayton Visual Arts Center
and elsewhere. Fiedler’s quilts are characterized
by bold colors, imaginative use of geometric forms and
an artistic approach that’s solidly rooted in
tradition but also informed by contemporary art. Her
quilt “Outback” was pictured in Quilters
Newsletter magazine. Fiedler is a member of the
Miami Valley Art Quilt Network, an organization formed
in 1992 by artists and quilters who were interested
in the art form of non-traditional quilts. For 10 years
in the 1980s and 1990s, she managed the art exhibits
at the Cox Arboretum and the Glen Street Gallery in
Yellow Springs. Fiedler is also a talented photographer.
