Arguably the most celebrated pianist of his generation, Charlap is also a primary caretaker for the best in American song. Created specifically for this one-time-only event, Charlap and his trio will perform an evening of music composed by Billy Strayhorn or in collaboration with Duke Ellington.
Part of a weeklong salute to this Dayton-born pianist/composer, Celebrating Billy Strayhorn will illuminate the legacy of one of the most creative and misunderstood figures in jazz history. Made possible with support from the NEA American Masterpieces program.
