Internationally renowned as an oud and violin virtuoso, composer and educator, Palestinian Simon Shaheen is one of the most important traditional Arab musicians of his generation as well as an eloquent champion of Arab music and culture. Shaheen, a National Heritage Fellowship winner in 1994, is universally acclaimed for his border-spanning work with the groups Near Eastern Music Ensemble and Qantara, performing a heady and compelling Arab-Western fusion The Washington Post praises as “eminently cosmopolitan.”
